FOOTBALL

Football teams at Little Rock Central High have had a winning tradition since the school was founded at the beginning of the 20th century. SInce the 1904 season the Tigers have won 32 State Championships and 2 National Championships, Including 15 undefeated seasons and 347 shutouts. The Class of 1961 was no exception. On Thursday, November 24, 1960 it completed a 12-0 undefeated and untied season, one of only 6 such seasons in the schools history. Many stories have been told about this great Tiger team and we all have fond memories of it's many victories. There are many ways to describe this teams accomplishments but the following sports editorial from long time Arkansas Gazette sports journalist Jerry McConnell, which appeared in the Gazette on Sunday, November 27, 1961, is probably the most insightful.
